What do you mean by "sound clips"?
Sound Clips from MSN Messenger have got nothing to do with Messenger Plus! and thus don't depend on what version of Plus! you have/use.
Custom Sounds from Messenger Plus! will, of course, be compatible with the new Messenger Plus! Live (and vice versa). Just as many other things will (text coloring, commands, etc). And the stuff which will not be compatible (overall registry settings), will be automatically ported to the new version. So, no worries
PS: The part about the custom counds, commands and text coloring being compatible is unconfirmed and unofficial, though it is very logical and speaks for itself that they will be compatible (in the least upwards).
