So the pop-ups were displaying 'idle', but the text next to the display name in a conversation windows was just saying 'away'?

I can't confirm this. I've just checked a contact and the 'idle' appears in both the pop-up on mouse-over and next to their display name in the conversation window.

I'm on Vista too.
