Not everyone likes the icons without labels, and the Messenger + Mail couple simply takes up a ton of space when showing labels (and I, like many others, won't buy a larger monitor [17'' seems big enough for me] only to have some extra programs shown).
I'd also love an official way to put Messenger (and Mail) back in the system tray
