Like I suspected it was MSIE which doesn't show the gamma-level correctly from the PNG. If there is a gamma-level-chunck, it will be always displayed to dark. If there is no gamma-level-chunck set in the PNG then there is no problem...

Also, I've recreated the image so it isn't dithered. In fact the image is identical (except for the added snow and hat of course). Try to do an arithmetic comparisson

Numbers of colors is 256 (thus no indexes wasted). This is more then the normal logo (150 colors), because of the snow and hat of course.

I've never heard of "gamma level" and I didn't see any options to remove it...
