I just got service pack 2 today and i was wondering which do you think has made them most difference to xp? basically which is a bigger (by bigger i mean the most added features, not physical disk space taken up, sorry if this was confusing to Kryptonate) update (dont matter if you dont have 2 yet just go on the info you have).

the size isn't important, security is what matters.

But Service Pack 2 is (and will be) the bigger update, though.

SP2 will be about 80MB, I don't know for SP1

80mb ? when i downloaded it, it was like 250mb

Damn right that SP2 has made more obvious changes than SP1 did... and I hate most of them.

1) It installs DirectX 9.0c which isn't compatible with some games

2) It literally forces you to restart your computer just after installing updates (if you choose not to, it will bug you about it every 10 minutes or so)

3) Internet Explorer has become a pain to use with the new built-in popup blocker... the Google bar is much better at this. M$'s new blocker can't even distinguish between 'good' and 'bad' popups. Thank God you can disable it...

4) The new security center is a pain, something that you'll choose to disable instantly after installing the SP. Here's why I hate it: I'm running Norton Internet Security 2003 with everything completely updated (this includes both firewall and antivirus), and the M$ security center was unable to detect this! It kept on saying "Your firewall & antivirus status is unknown.. bla bla". Sometimes it even managed to detect Norton and it was satisfied, but mostly it didn't.

5) Even downloads via Internet Explorer have become a pain... you have to first click the bar "A download was blocked. Click here to download the file" before you're permitted to get the file.

I could probably go on, but...

What do you guys think about it anyway?

I haven't installed SP2 myself yet, but here is what I would like to say anyway.

The point of an update is that it takes effect. In order to do this, you need to reboot. If you don't reboot, the update is useless. Therefore, this sounds like a logical thing to do.

From what I've heard (don't hold this against me), the pre-release releases have this issue, because no correct program information was delivered by the program company. This should be changed in the final release.

Can't comment on other things yet

SP2... even though I haven't tested it, I have read about the new features.

SP 2 is going to be the most likely to have more in it because it has new features like the pop-up blocker, plus updates for other windows components

Isnt SP2 going to cost money to purchase after 30 free days or something? or was that a rumour? any news on a release date?
