AMD Sempron... anyone ever heard of it... likely you have, but how good a processor is this?
my sister bought a new Compaq Presario ()
256 Megs of RAM ()
and an AMD Sempron processor.... it has been operating slowly since purchase and I was wondering if anyone knows why this would be... (Besides the whole Compaq thing and the 256 Meg RAM thing...)

well i know where i can get a sempron and a motherboard for $120. i'm guessing there older chips and i'd say they might be slower. please dont blame it on the amd

a Sampron has slower FSB = front serial Bus speeds than a Athlon does

never heard of it which isnt a good sign.. me being some1 who regularly check new CPUs.. and the fact it only has 256 of ram cant help either..
but this is only my opinion so..

you do really need more Ram than 256 ..512 or more on the safe side.. but the sampron is akka the old AMD Duron

AMD Sepron processors are intended for use in servers.

IF YOU CAN, get an Athlon 64.

Not really blade.. there for the low cost user that dont require a lot of speed like us Guru's the Opteron an those are for servers, not the Sampron

Whoops - got the 2 mixed up.

Sempron is the equivilant of the old Durons for the newer processors.

I've got a Sempron. No problems as far as I can see

But a RAM upgrade for your sister's comp might be in order...
