If you make a nicname you don't want that everybody to read that nic...


here an example:

you want that this nic only can be seen by your friends but not by your

or an extra addon for Plus...

long answer yes it is possible, I belive a buggy addon which did this was my sweet nick or something like that.
but it is possible to have a nickname per contact(well protocol wise)

That would be one awesome and useful plugin. Someone with some skills should get on it.

somthing in the way that stuffplug shows a short nickname in convos would do that but i think that still shows your normal nick in the contact list

If I am right then it's only possible to have a unique chat-only-name per contact. Your nickname in the contact list will be the same for everyone. This is also pointed out in the thread I mentioned earlier (Impossible due to protocol)

it still does work, searching the forums would have given a reply though (without wanting to sound rude)

mycustomnix gave (as juzzi stated) a chat-only nick per contact, and one for other contacts... the actual "nickname" (the one you change in your contact list) was there for everyone

the reason i'm not releasing a new one is because of the lack of features (a proxy is heavy for just one feature) and the incompatibility with stuffplug ng's chat only nick (which is a lame reason because it takes two minutes to write a fix for that)

i suggest you contact ecko_complex about this (MDX ), or a motivated coder to write a proxy which does this and can also have other features (like blocking multi-people convo's for example)
