Uninstall the codec pack you downloaded, if you haven't already, and download and install
FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder, it loads DivX files extremely quickly as a stream, its a decoder that uses a directshow filter from the makers of XviD, so it is extremely reliable. It is also capeable of acting as a codec to all DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies, the only thing it doesn't do is decompress MP3s, but as long as you have windows media player on your computer the audio for the movie should be fine. I think that program is the one best suited for you.
