if you like sonicstage crashing your computer and if you like your player to break constantly.
1) SonicStage is not needed, it's optional (FOR CD-MP3 players)
2) They don't brake constantly, all the MP3 players i had have been Sony and i would say they are the best! Excelent battery life, and good quality. They stopped working because they have suffered a lot of hits, that's all.
Anyways, if you don't want a big-sized CD-MP3 player then go for an IPod.

I also recomend a cheap mp3 player, one that you just stick into your computer with and drag the files you want on there onto it.
Apple says that you must use iTunes (there are some hacks to not use iTunes). You can use music that's not from ITMS, but you must import it into iTunes, but it rejects most files (mp3s are fine (for now )). iTunes also likes crashing.
iDon't
You can use Winamp with the iPod Plugin. Also iTunes accepts most file formats. Though it will convert them to AAC or MP3 depending on your settings.
It's also ANNOYING as all heck to have to unload and load new music onto my mp3 player every time i want a new playlist.

RE: MP3 Suggestions
A friend from school has one of those Sony Beans, at first I thought they were really big, but they're actually quite small and are pretty cool. They also hold a nice number of songs and have a nice little display on it too .

My friend has i Sony 20GB mp3 player. I think it's this one here. Sony NW-A3000B
It's really nice, i've used it and my friend says he's had no problems with it and it has a great battery life.

RE: MP3 Suggestions
iPods are good MP3 players, and iTunes is good music software.
The only problem I have with iTunes is that there is no option to move music into iTunes' filing system, only copy the files, so basically I have two copies of a load of music all over the place.
However, the only problem I have is that now I had an iPod I have spent about £300 on music from iTMS, and my iPod fell out of a hole in my pocket and i lost it, so I am basically stuck with saving up for an iPod as my next MP3 player, otherwise I will have basically wasted £300.

Mine fell out of my coat pocket when i put my coat down somewhere. I didn't realise till way after that it wasn't there. So i'm saving up for a new one as well. And my ipod with itunes was great, i never had any problems which is why i'll be buying another one. Lucky i've got a job for the money though.
