I went round my friends house to fix up her computer. I got rid of about 70% of start-up programs and it ran like a bullet.

The problem is though, I went to Windows Update and there was 1 update, Internet Explorer 7. So I downloaded it, installed it and restarted the computer. Then I found I couldn't go on any websites. However, Windows Live Messenger works and the actual broadband connection seems to be fine. I just can't connect on Internet Explorer. Dazzy sent me Firefox on WLM, but I installed that and that didn't work either.

I'm going back round tomorrow, so any ideas how I could possibly fix it?

Try and check if something is screwing around with the ports and blocking/changing data.

disable the internet security and if it is : norton internet security get a patch from the website to fix it.

Ahh.. I think they have that. That may just be the problem.
I'll try and do that tomorrow, but if anyone else has and suggestions, that would be appreciated.

Maybe some firewall is blocking IE7  from connecting to internet

I did add 'Internet Explorer' to the Windows Firewall exception list, but didn't do anything.

What's the error you get with IE and FF?

Well, seeing that FF or IE will not work, it must be something else.

Unless IE amazingly controls Firefox.
