how do i change so that i can read the other persons message they are sending me. with one of my contacts, there message is in symbols, so i cant understand what the are saying.

Messenger Plus! Live offers a font override feature, that allows you to set a custom font for your contacts. You can only override the font for all contacts, however.
To override your contacts' font:
Messenger Plus! Live Preferences -> Conversations tab -> Formatting -> Recieved messages font
