What do you mean? If you've had a ton of LPs before, wouldn't you know that?

I've had about 20 of them, during my Chemo.

Had about half under local anaesthetic and half under general and got completely knocked out.

Was cos the Leukaemia cells can hide in the spinal fluid and all of the other chemo only treats the bloodstream.

I think he means "why did you have to have it?".. like the injection, not really asking what is does in general.

Kinda the same reason, mine was cancer not lukaemia....I only had a couple tho, one under general, one under local

I don't remember much from back then :S

Lumber Pumcture is mostly used as an aneasthetic during labor.. to numb the lady below the site of punture..

It is also used to draw some samples from the spinal fluids around the spinal cord .. to do some tests (first is to ovbserve the fluids taken out..as color .. blood stain..) .. tests as level of protein .. level of red blood cells and white blood cells.. mainly to check for meningitis (inflamation/infection of the brain membranes)

(finished medical school and year of internship)

Didn't finish reading the thread to notice we already figured what it was for though did you?

Needles are one thing I can't look at. That and knives going into skin. I can get needles, but I won't look, and I can't look at anyone else getting it. The whole cutting skin thing is just odd for me. I can't see it go in, it freaks me out :P. That is one crazy needle. I'd be quite nervous getting one of those.

i've had one and, tbh, it didn't hurt that much.

The picture does look horrible, but you don't see it so it's not that bad :P
