I think that all MSN's connect to the same server (messenger.hotmail.com). Windows Messenger is slightly different from MSN whereas servers are concerned i think. Are you using MSN Messenger 6 or 7. I have exactly the same setup as you (minus the laptop - I have a desktop PC instead) and I haven't noticed MSN connection dropping out.
