RE: S.M.A.R.T. Fail Status A head crash? The drive never clicked, nor does it click. I think that error code has to do with the reserve sectors of the drive being full. | alegator | Tech Talk | 03-07-2007 at 10:22 AM |
RE: Need to buy cheap PC speakers I just want a set of stereo speakers that will sound loud enough to be able to listen to DVD movies and MP3's within say 15 feet distance. A cheap brand reliable speaker set with the above requirement. | alegator | Tech Talk | 03-07-2007 at 10:22 AM |
RE: S.M.A.R.T. Fail Status Well, it must be close to the end of its lifetime then. The curious thing is that the drive sounds perfectly fine, it seems that S.M.A.R.T. is an effective early warning system.I will continue using it until judgment day, in the meantime backing up i... | alegator | Tech Talk | 03-07-2007 at 05:32 AM |

Need to buy cheap PC speakers I need to buy a pair of cheap stereo PC speakers. I'll be happy if the MAX volume is loud enough and if distortion is minimum. I'll be using them for listening MP3's, watching DVD movies, and for chatting. Thanks for any suggestions. | alegator | Tech Talk | 03-05-2007 at 09:31 AM |

RE: Need to find a replacement for Norton Internet Security The problem with Windows Firewall is that it only controls inbound connections, not outbound. I've read that Vista's firewall also adds outbound control, but I'm using XP. | alegator | Tech Talk | 02-22-2007 at 12:42 PM |
Need to find a replacement for Norton Internet Security My Norton Internet Security 2005 expired. What other firewall/antivirus suite (not Symantec) is the best out there? I read good reviews on Nod32 antivirus, but I'd still need a firewall. Thanks for any advice. | alegator | Tech Talk | 02-22-2007 at 12:07 PM |

DVD backup not playable in DVD player/Area Limits I have this movie in DVD, which is playable in my PC, but not in my Sony DVD player. When inserting the DVD in the DVD player the TV screen shows the message:"Playing of this disc is prohibited by area limits". So, thinking that it might be a regio... | alegator | Tech Talk | 02-21-2007 at 06:02 AM |
Display picture takes ages to change I still use MSN v7.5.0322 together with Plus! v3.63.148 and A-patch. All works fine, except for a single identity which has this p... | alegator | Skype & Live Messenger | 02-11-2007 at 03:27 AM |
Firewalls/Is this statement true? "You can buy a consumer hub/firewall (which will also network your home computers) for about $30, and it's more effective than any software AV/Firewall." which I got from here: http://news.com.com/Week+in+review+Visions+of+Vist a+Buyer+beware/2100... | alegator | Tech Talk | 02-03-2007 at 12:17 AM |

Adding many contacts to MSN Say I have a list of 100 Hotmail contacts in a txt file that I want to add to my contact list. Do I have to do so one by one? Or is there a way to mass-add them thru an automated process? Thanks. | alegator | Skype & Live Messenger | 01-28-2007 at 12:13 AM |
RE: Should I return my hard drive? Woraug, I read good comments on Seagate hard drives. Woould you rate Seagate as high as WD? | alegator | Tech Talk | 01-08-2007 at 08:04 PM |
RE: Missing or corrupted HAL.DLL By cloning I mean a bit by bit clone of the HDD, and to do so I used Norton Ghost 10. Regarding copying the Master Boot Record, I did not include this option as I'm afraid it might delete the partitions in the destination disk. RE: Missing or corrupted HAL.DLL Shawn, I installed the cloned disk in the SAME identical PC I was using the source disk, so the mobo, chipset, cards, etc are all IDENTICAL, except of course the hard drive which is a different one. I've cloned hard drives before and they all were s... | alegator | Tech Talk | 01-08-2007 at 04:47 AM |
Missing or corrupted HAL.DLL I cloned my main drive (250Gb) to a 2nd internal drive (320Gb). The 2nd internal has 2 partitions: 237Gb and 60.5Gb. I chose the 237Gb partition as destination for the cloning, of course I set it as Primary, Active to make it bootable. So when I try t... | alegator | Tech Talk | 01-07-2007 at 11:55 PM |
RE: Where are MSN backgrounds stored? I zoomed into different picture areas and don't notice any new artifacts. However I stay with the procedure you mentioned (rename extension to jpg) since it obviously is cleaner (does not involve any processing). | alegator | Skype & Live Messenger | 01-07-2007 at 11:49 PM |
RE: Where are MSN backgrounds stored? ok thanks, I suspected you could just rename it to .jpg.However, I don't notice any resolution difference compared to "Saving As" with Paint. | alegator | Skype & Live Messenger | 01-07-2007 at 09:20 AM |
RE: Where are MSN backgrounds stored? Thanks a lot, I did not find any file in that folder with the .bin extension. Instead, all files were of the .dat type, but I managed to open them with Paint as you suggested and saved it as .jpg. regards. | alegator | Skype & Live Messenger | 01-07-2007 at 02:27 AM |
