RE: what command line audio encoder do you recommend?
I thought of that but I wanted aac and others too. it does encode nicely to vbr (with a histogram showing what bitrate each frame is) so I guess that'll do. who uses anything other than mp3 these days anyway? (don't kill me, I'm just kidding)

RE: Using Router as a Repeater?
this is how nat works. the natting device doesn't know where to send initial incoming packets (for new connections), indeed, which is why port forwarding exists. outgoing packets seen by the router are recorded so that the packets that come ...

what command line audio encoder do you recommend?
ffmpeg can re-encode audio to various different formats but I haven't been able to find a way to enable vbr (it uses libmp3lame, so it should be possible but I haven't found a way). what other command line tool do you know of that supports ...

RE: Using Router as a Repeater?
oh I see. I wasn't aware universities used that for wired too. mine just uses mac address auth.

RE: Using Router as a Repeater?
are you talking about wireless? I was under the impression he had a wired connection to the university network, not a wireless one.

RE: Using Router as a Repeater?
then just connect the university connection to the wan port of the router and register the router's mac address on the university's network - as far as they will then be able to see you have one machine connected and they don't need to know what...

RE: putty client behaviour?
That connection is unrelated to PuTTY. I'm guessing you're trying to access host-palace through your HTTP proxy set up with PuTTY? Well, firstly, I wasn't aware that PuTTY did HTTP proxies so that might be the problem, and secondly that "Connect...

RE: Mistruth in FAQ
Not only is this untrue (the hijacker/attacker modifies the received HTTP packets on the fly, then sends them on, and if they wanted to appear inconspicuous, could even download the original file the user requested) but no normal user would even not...

RE: Mistruth in FAQ
Using your precious little ARP/DNS spoofing and hijacking all HTTP requests: when you see HTTP response headers from a server that signify a download (Content-Disposition: attachment; etc), block the content of the download and send your own viral c...

RE: Mistruth in FAQ
GREAT. No, seriously, that's wonderful. Now let's make sure that we don't use our computers to make any sorts of requests, HTTP or otherwise, because there might be someone performing a man-in-the-middle attack.

RE: once "NxWin.exe" closes, taskkill NxSSH.exe [solved: <3 segosa]
tasklist lists all processes. tasklist | find "NxWin.exe" will list NxWin.exe (if it exists) I can't be bothered to figure out the batch file syntax, but you basically need to stick the result of tasklist | find "NxWin.exe" into a variabl...

RE: Budget Quad Core
The Q6600 is the best "bang for your buck" budget quad-core processor available these days, and if he wants something good for cheap, then it's his best bet.

RE: better solution for window.scrollTo(x,y), onload is too slow.
we already gave you a solution: scrolling down 100 pixels is not only stupid but also useless.

RE: better solution for window.scrollTo(x,y), onload is too slow.
wtf does it matter scrolling down 100 pixels to the video? It's completely unnecessary.

RE: better solution for window.scrollTo(x,y), onload is too slow.
It executes on DOMContentLoaded i.e., when the page's source code has been downloaded and the DOM can be manipulated - meaning images may not be loaded yet. As far as I'm aware window.onload and co only execute once images have been loaded too. ht...

RE: better solution for window.scrollTo(x,y), onload is too slow.
put <script type="text/javascript">window.scrollTo(6,112);</ script> into the HTML at the place that you know is approximately the location of (6, 112).
