What would be the best place to buy PC components in the UK
If I were thinking of buying and building a new PC, and buying all the components separately, and I lived in the UK, then what would be the best place to buy the components from? Locally there's only one shop which sells them all at jacked-up prices...

RE: Split Ethernet Cable without Router
... no, WAN is the connection from the "wall" (it's either an ethernet connection or a phoneline connection depending on whether or not the router has a modem built in) and the other four ports are LAN. [img]http://www.cguy.net/wireless_networkin...

RE: Split Ethernet Cable without Router
1. plug everything into the four ports on the back labelled "LAN" and nothing into the "WAN" port 2. power up the router 3. ??? 4. profit!

RE: Split Ethernet Cable without Router
have you got a spare router lying about? if so you could just plug into the lan ports of that and it'd function as a switch.

RE: Getting virus warning when recieving files via msn
yeah, you could do everything mentioned in this thread, or when you receive an mp3 you could go to your received files, right click on the file and hit properties then click "Unblock" on the bottom.

RE: What do you think of the ''Twilight'' saga?
when I was young I used to read The Saga of Darren Shan which I found to be really good (at that age). I never got around to finishing all the books though, I had the first three books i...

RE: D-Link Wireless card issues
an XP driver isn't going to physically mess up the card, but if you have access to other PCs with either Vista or XP, you should try install it on them to see if it's the card's fault, Windows', or the driver's.

just need to make sure you set ChatWnds to null in that if, otherwise the next message will be seen as the first too.

RE: MPEG to AVI Converter
MPEG is a set of codec standards, and avi is a container format, so what you're saying could be interpreted in many ways... if you mean you'd like to convert a DVD (MPEG-2) into a smaller format that is stored inside the avi container and playable ...

RE: Pasting BUG - with images
The latest beta saves it at 80% jpeg quality while WLM saves it at about 70-75%. There's no noticable difference in quality to the human eye between 10% when it's that bad already. It makes no sense why this feature would be added if it already exi...

RE: Pasting BUG - with images
it's intercepting the already-existing feature of messenger that saves what's on the clipboard into a fairly low-quality jpeg (but not too bad) and sends it, except it's making it a png which is a lot larger (I'd ideally like a 90% quality jpeg, ...

RE: why is ICMP on the Internet layer
I don't know why it does it that way, but from some reading apparently it simply shares a header with IP, and is located on that layer. oh well.

why is ICMP on the Internet layer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_protocol_sui te - I don't understand why ICMP is considered on the Internet layer (where IP is), when 1) the ICMP headers don't contain any IP data 2) a captured ICMP packet with wireshark shows an IP layer
