I don't see an option for privacy settings in Messenger, but everything is set to friends only (apart from friend invites, which is friends of friends). Scripts are add-ons for Plus! - find the Script Menu button (three blocks, stacked) on the contact list, then go to Script Preferences to see if you have any installed.
