Messenger 7 default status @ startup by ch742718 on 02-07-2005 at 03:02 PM

I am running MSN Messenger 7 (Beta) with Messenger Plus 3.40 (Beta) on an XP/Home machine.

I want to start Messenger with Windows (no probem) and auto-login at startup (also no problem), BUT I want my status to be "Appear Offline" at login by default.  I know I can defer the auto-login and set status to Appear Offline manually (drop down menu) and then login manually but I want to bypass this.  Any ideas?

i already asked for that feature here
i am not sure, but maybe the version of messenger discovery (to be released?) which is compatable with msn7 will contain this feature.
just a note: i would nvr trust messenger discovery to run on my pc. please note that this is only a PERSONAL OPINION (maybe this is just a case when sm1 does a mistake and nvr has the chance to fix it)

Only editing the EXE springs to mind, which violates the EULA.

Thanks for all your help!  I did get some advice in the chat room about Universal Messenger Launcher and have set this up and it is working ok (not perfect and a little messy but works)

Yes there is a way to do this, and I'm loving it!

You can use MSN Shell.

Don't whine and moan, it has gone a long way from it's first version. I use it with Messenger Plus! :).

RE: Messenger 7 default status @ startup by zaidgs on 02-08-2005 at 10:45 PM

wow, it even has batch emoticons adders !!!

but i wonder why the msn7 compatable version is 5.9MBs, while that comapatable with msn is only 1.3MBs!!

also, its all clean from addware and spyware hopefully....

edit: man!!! what the hell does this plugin exactly do?!?!
it is VERY INVASIVE: it changes every aspect of messenger without asking!!
personally, i'd not recommend it to anyone (N)(N)(N)
the "remember my last login status" isnt working for me!
it automatically sets "always on top" option for msn window,
shows the ad-banner (after i removed it using mess patch),
shows tabs after i have removed them too,
changes background picture of main window,
assumes i want polygamy, adds three context menus,
and dunno what else.
an uninstall will not undo all the changes it does!

on the positive side, batch emoticons adder seems nice, although it lacks "suffixing"

i will give it a little bit more of chance, but i dont like how it messes with messenger without asking!!

Please go through the task of configuring MSN Shell. All those things can be removed through there. It really has come a long way from it's first version, I can't wait for the final :).

Edit: I do admit however, it would be better were it more customisable :)

Is MSN Shell still in broken English?

RE: Messenger 7 default status @ startup by zaidgs on 02-11-2005 at 12:22 AM

i tried to report this to msnshell's forums but couldnt (due to language being unreadable :S), so im gonna report it here hoping sm1 can actually report it: there is a bug in the batch emoticons adder: some gifs are added as "white" emoticons. (using msn shell 4.0 beta)

an example of such emoticons is attached

note: this feature (batch adder) is probably the only cool feature i found in it, and i hav suggested adding it to plus a long time ago
