Impossible to connect to Live Messenger by SorrowLane on 10-13-2006 at 12:47 PM

Hi,
Since yesterday, i can't connect to my hotmail account in Live Messenger (lastest version). But I can with a passport account (@walla.com).
I receive no error cause Live Mess is always trying to connect.

Please, help me.
Thanks.

Just keep waiting. You will recieve an error message. Just leave it going until you do.

I have the opposite problem. Hotmail works, but my @gmail.com passport does not. It sits there at the signing in screen forever. There is *NO* error message. I've left it sitting for over 8 hours while I slept. It just kept on signing in. I've discovered that I can still login through windows messenger with the passport, this is a problem strictly with WLM. http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=67262 It seems to be a similar problem.. Identical except for which types of accounts can login.

Possible fix: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=67262&page=2 posted by Victoria. It worked for us.

There was a fix posted that worked for all who had posted with the problem, so it may work for you too:

1. Hit "run" in the start menu
2. Type "regedit"
3. Open "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger"
4. Delete the folder called MSN Messenger
5. After this MSN Messenger Live will login as normal.

or...

If you're not comfortable editing the registry, you can run this small reg. file posted by Jonathan Kay [MVP] which does the same thing as posted above:
Remove Messenger Settings
