What icons?

If I know what icons you're talking about, you can disable them here:

Preferences and options/Appearance/Messenger/

and Unmark/Disable the option "Show me promotions associated with Messenger plus!"

Please do not... If you wanna share it on news sites and stuff, refer to the official site (http://www.msgplus.net/).

The DNS problems should be solved soonish and the servers should be able to cope with the massive traffic anyways.

They do work, you just can't add a tag to your nickname as there are no more nicknames in 2011... :)

Yeah I haven't seen an announcement by Yuna here...it almost seems like some pressed the wrong button for the go-ahead.

All previous versions included Hungarian language, but the newest one is not. Can someone tell me why?

English is fine for me, but it's more comfortable to use it in my native language :)

Hey guys.. I am new to this site as a user.. but am a long long time plus software user

I just wanted to know.. during the plus 5 set up stages, it asks for a "myplus" account.. I have never come across this feature before nor ever had to make a myplus account. So I am assuming it's new.

Is it Important at this stage to have an account.. will plus 5 work with out one. I tried to sign up but the link took me to a "404 page not found".

Oh and the new plus 5 looks and seems great so far.. good job (Y)

No, Plus! 5 willl work fine without one. You only wont be able to store your chatlogs online should you want to. The website is still being worked on (DNS changes), that would explain the 404 error for now, it should work in a few days.

I had this very same issue first go. Istalled it but nothing changed so I un-istalled and then it worked the 2nd time.. Perhaps an installer bug issue already

okay - installed it, everything works great.. but i'm running win7 and now WLM has gone back to sitting in the taskbar instead of the systray.. do i just run MP5 in compatibility mode?

edit: wait, fixed - had to redo the compatibility mode for messenger itself. now, lemme go explore the software xD

It may be that the Hungarian translator is not currently around to do it in time for the release.

It is advised to NEVER run Windows Live Messenger in compatibility mode. It causes all sorts of internal problems and can cause havoc with plus as well

It should tell us that Plus is closing WLM because I was in the middle of something important. Yes, I should know, but others wont!

The Plus logo on the contact list is hardly noticeable.

For some reason my logs are gone. :(

The contact list clean up still has the broken 'has you' column?


Sorry to be a bit thick, but what has Plus 5 got new? Except MyPlus chat logs, theirs isn't anything new? LOL :S

Proper compatibility with the latest release of Messenger. That was the most urgent "feature" of this release, but now that it's there they can start working on "proper" new features.

Hungarian hasn't been mentionned anywhere though. What description are you talking about? And are you sure the description is about Plus!5 ? Hungarian hasn't been officially supported since a while.

Like said by someone else already: compatibility with WLM 2011... But also online logging is a big one, and then there are a bunch of smaller things like showing contact's nicknames in front of their name, etc and other small tid bits which you wont notice at first.

Funny though, first people complain because Plus! is delayed, then they complain because it lacks features :rolleyes: ... oh well...

Nope, it is always shown in every version (you do need to select the "show contacts in your list" list of course, not the other list :p).

It's not. We removed Greek, Hebrew and Hungarian translations because they weren't updated in time. For the Hungarian one, I think the translator has actually gone AWOL. Sunshine should know more about this :)

Actually, Hungarian did appear in my Plus! 5.0 settings too. Only after manually deleting all files in the Languages folder and installing Plus! 5.0 it disappeared. Obviously it is some old Hungarian language file from the time when it was still bundled with the setup (I never installed any language file manually, except for Dutch when Cookie sends a new one every day). Isn't the compatibility level supposed to hide outdated language files from the settings? If it doesn't this could be creating problems for more old languages.

This Hungarian language file was sitting in my Languages folder (and showing up in the Plus! 5.0 settings GUI): http://rnd.menthix.net/mpl_files/Lng_Hungarian.ini

Well, as you could guess, that's all from the old site....

The only thing changed on that old one was the version number on the download page and the download link. Everything else wasn't touched (even not the version number on the main page, that still is 4.9).... aka seriously out of date...

On the 'new' site (even the not so up-to-date one) there is no Hungarian listed:

yup, all languages from Plus!4 were automatically included in the first beta's and their file compat.level were set to 5674.

@Menthix: hence why for example Hebrew was 'included' too at first....

Just open it with Notepad, or any text editor :)
You also can try to compare the old Lang file with the new English file, for exapmle in Total Commander. New things can be translated and differences can be corrected.
BTW I am also thinking on translating it so we could work together and check each other :P ..or something like that

If so, disable that option, close the preferences, sign out, sing back in, go to the Plus! preferences & options and enable it again. Then check if names are colorized now.
If it still doesn't work then it is a bug and you might wanna make a new thread about it in the "Bug Reports" subforum

Just installed it, and looks good!  Although I thought the installer couldn't restart Messenger automatically since it would then start with administrator privileges... or something.  :S  ...and now my Interface Writer script seems to have broken, since the "ScriptsDir" registry key doesn't exist any more...  :(

It has been fixed with a work-around. The whole admin privileges thing is taken into account.

The MsgPlus.ScriptFilesPath and MsgPlus.ScriptRegPath scripting functions should be working. If you mean the actual location of Plus!' registry settings, that has moved to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yuna Software\Messenger Plus!. But scripts shouldn't hardlink to registry paths, use MsgPlus.ScriptFilesPath and MsgPlus.ScriptRegPath.

But yeah, like he said, since Interface Writer itself is a script, you should not use a hard coded registry path! Use the file path from the script itself (MsgPlus.ScriptFilesPath) and travel one directory up to get the scripts path.

DNS records are usually cached at various places. DNS servers, ISPs, Routers, Local machines ... they can all cache DNS records and can't be controlled by the person who makes the change. On top of that there are factors like which registrar, TLD, and type of record you are dealing with.

For example: a changing a .nl takes a shitload longer than changing a .com :).

Hi, first time registering on these forums, but using Plus for some time now.

I'm disappointed with the lack of actual features, for example, custom nicknames. Now I know that WLM 2011 no longer supports this feature, but I'm not sure if it would be difficult for the Plus! devs to write their own code to make it work :P

Although, I'm happy with the other features.

It is back already I believe, if not at least partly. Since I've installed Messenger Plus! 5.0, I've been seeing my own and my contacts' nicknames again. :)

Come to think of it, looking at my contact list, it seems to be only displayed by people whom I know of have installed Messenger Plus! 5.0 themselves.

Edit:
If you change your Windows Live Profile name, this would allow you to set a custom nickname as well. It's a little less convenient and actually changes your "real name" in your profile, but it is an option.

One way to do this:
-Open Windows Live Messenger
-Press the Alt key to open a menu-bar on top
-Go to Tools > Options.
-In the Personal Information window, click the button "Change Name" behind your current name.
-This will lead you to your Windows Live profile, name changing option page. It will most likely ask you to login prior to this.
-Here it asks you a First and Surname, you can enter whatever you like here.
Certain "unusual characters" will work as well.

Are you referring to "contact renaming" (which is a Messenger feature and still available in WLM2011) or nicknames here?

The nicknames do actually still exist in WLM2011 but you just can't see them. Plus!5 allows you to display them again, with some limitations, but it does work~~

You also can change your own nickname using the "/nick" command inside a chat window :)

The command does not show up in the pop-up menu that displays when you enter "/"
Also, own nicknames aren't displayed and it seems that it indeed only displays the nicknames of contacts that have installed Messenger Plus! 5.0 themselves.

As for the popup menu, there are some hidden commands that are not listed there :p /name, which is an alias to /nick, should show up though.

I'm loved the old msg plus tabs. We can put the tab on right, not only on upper side like the new msn do. Will have a possibility to bring the option of tabs on right (and small size) side of conversation window again?

Bele kezdtél a magyar fordításban? Szólj ha kell segíteni. Én lefordítottam a "Lng_Default" fájlt magyarra, bemásoltam a helyére a régit felül írva de nem lett magyar a plus5. :(

Did the translation into Hungarian? Let me know if you need help. I translated the "Lng_Default" Hungarian file, copied to replace the old interface but has not been written in Hungarian plus5. :(

Well, are you signed in?

normally i sign in and i can see the contact list and plus logo from there. i can't see any plus logo in "wlm11 sign in screen" so i have to sign in first to see plus preferences. but now i can see the preferences which i didnt do anything different ( maybe a few restart to my comp).
