O.P. messenger & hotmail forceloads
I posted this in another forum w/o any luck. When i go to hotmail w/o messenger running, bill seems to think it would be better if i did have it running and insists on force loading the program.I find this highly annoying, runs & stops between pages in mail.It just runs program but doesn`t attempt to sign in.IMHO if i wanted messenger running before i checked mail would do so.........8o| bill just thinks all things .net should be running irregardless. All options in messenger have been set to not run (last forums lack of advice),i`m looking for the registry entry that prevents messenger from running when visiting hotmail.......

wins 98 se
messenger 6.1.203

I don't really know a possible solution, but first update MSN Messenger to 6.1.0207. And wait for a wiser answer.

Edit:
I don't know of this happening to other people.

If you're not afraid to mess with your Windows Registry, you could do the things advised at http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=27946&cid=3004594.

Do not mess with the Registry if you do not know how to, it can really screw up your computer.

No,not afraid of registry,it should be afraid of me,i meddle in there all the time.:|
I didn`t find any of those keys mentioned at that link, doesn`t have year, but has date of feb 13th (assuming this year) so will have to apply to an older version of messenger,on right track, old information.
But is what i`m looking for,the keys that force messenger to run when at a .net site

RE: messenger & hotmail forceloads
I hadn't noticed the date, but I did check out the keys, and I had them. However, now you mention it, the keys point to C:\Program Files\Messenger\msgsc.dll which is a DLL required by Windows Messenger. Since you use Win98SE you don't have that one.

That doesn't mean the post is entirely useless. You may now have a pretty good idea of how to solve the problem; you might want to search for C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msgsc.dll and remove some of those keys (but with caution of course; always make a backup first - but I'm sure you know that ;)). Good luck.
