O.P. Huh?  Unread mail messages at login?
XP is telling me I have 3 "unread" mail messages when I get to the login screen. I've got nothing on my hotmail and don't use any other accounts, where is it getting the mail info from and where can I disable it? :S

Edit: fixed spelling

When you click that text on the login page, it'll show you which account the emails are in. This might help you figure out where they are :)

As far as I know, it just gets that information from lots of places: MSN Messenger's Hotmail notifications seem to show there, but emails from Outlook and Outlook Express as well...

To disable it, download TweakUI and adjust the setting in Logon > Unread Mail.

.exe File Attachment: TweakUI [TweakUiPowertoySetup].exe (146.67 KB)
This file has been downloaded 176 time(s).

RE: Unread mail messages at login?
I had this same problem once, where I signed onto msn and had 1 unread message, but instead of clicking on that link, I opened mozilla and went to hotmail and read the message. When I next logged on it said that, so I opened msn and it said No unread messages. The fix was to simply open mozilla and create a new message to myself, wait for msn to pick it up, then click the link in messenger, read the email and voila.

Note that you can also replicate this bug in IE
