O.P. Huh?  Install Problem MsgPlus3 + Win2K SP4

I'm running Windows 2000 SP4, Messenger 6.1.0211.

I tried to install MsgPlus3 through my admin profile. Installed great and Plus features were available. I switched to a user profile that has Power User privileges. I launched messenger and no Plus features were available. Only regular messenger appeared.

I attempted to install MsgPlus 3 thru the user profile and received an error box with no text, simply a big red X. I then uninstalled MsgPlus3 through the admin profile and attempted the installation through the user profile. Before doing so, I gave the user Full Control access to the prog. I then received the following error message:

quote:
MessengerPlus Setup - I/O Error

Access on disk is denied or setup package is corrupted.

Here are common ways to solve this problem:

* Log-on with administrator privileges
* Install in a different directory
* Restart your computer
* Download the setup package from a different source

I attempted the suggested solutions with the exception of the *install to a different directory* all without success.

I've never had an installation problem with past versions of Plus.

Can anyone recommend a solution to this problem or perhaps point out something that I might have missed.

Thank you.

Same problem as describe here :

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=25747

Apparently, Messenger Plus! only works if under Administrators account. If you want it to work under every type of account, you have to reset the permissions on the messenger plus files (located in Program Files) to default.

To do so you have to (assuming the Messenger Plus! 3 folder hase the right permissions unlike its subfiles/subfolder. In my computer it was the case) :

1. Browse to the "Messenger Plus! 3" program folder. (The default location is "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3")
2.  View the security permission entries for this folder.  This can be done
by right-clicking the folder and choosing "Properties".  The
permissions can be viewed on the "Security" tab of the folder properties.
If the "Security" tab is not visible, Simple File Sharing is enabled, and
must be disabled before continuing.
3.  Click the "Advanced" button on the "Security" tab to open the "Advanced
Security Settings" dialog.
4.  On the "Permissions" tab, select the option entitled "Replace permission
entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child
objects", and click "Apply".
5.  Click "Yes" in the security dialog warning that all explicitly defined
permissions will be removed from child objects.
6.  Click "OK" to close the "Advanced Security Settings dialog.
7.  Click "OK" to close the "Properties" dialog box.

(Y)  Pilou, thank you for that post. It did the trick! I am now a happy MsgPlus3 user in all of my profiles.

Have a super day!
