O.P. Message from (unknown), subject (none)???
I don't get this. I was looking through my Hotmail inbox like I usually do each day and came to a strange message. On this list it looked like this,

       From                     Subject
    (unknown)               (none)

Then when I opened tha message, it was completely blank and there where a few message headers. (I have show all headers switched on so this looked strange)

You can do that with PHP, where you have control over all headers.
But there are probably many underground mail cliants with this feature as well.

It's probably a bot that brute-forces all hotmail addresses and sends a blank message with random code headers which probably contain your address. If there is no failure notice sent back (with the code) they know your account exists and they use it.
