nope, it wont, it doesnt store recent changes like that. It even doesn't store/restore recycle bin stuff...

Furthermore, be very carefull with system restore; it will overwrite any recent changes (including installed programs and data!!)

so what is the system restore point do, like what is it used for?

Is it used if you messed up your comp by adding a virus or messing up the registry?

You say you accidently deleted it in XP pro, this isnt the easiest thing to do as it does not appear in add/remove programs and you cannot just click on it and delete or anything simple like that. You may have just hidden it from your desktop, try right clicking on the desktop>Arrange icons by>Show desktop items. Make sure this item is ticked.

Without it being checked, recycle bin (as well as the rest of the desktop items) will be missing

RE: Undeleting the recycle bin?
Like I said, doing a system restore wasn't needed at all :dodgy:

Just restarting your PC will most likely fixed it as the virtual link, the thing you deleted, is (re)created automatically.

Using system restore points without the knowledge of they do can be very harmfull!!! (another "Let's make another 'user friendly' feature for common people to screw up there PC" feature).

System restore points are meant for big fix ups, like system crashes etc. Not for restoring a simple small thing. System restore points store valueble and crucial data of your PC (eg: system registry) and settings for you account (eg: C:\Documents and Settings) and some stuff from the Windows directories....

This means that any change will be overwritten if you restore a System restore point!!!! Hence it should not be used for common easy fixes as you will loose any recent data, changes, etc... (of course, if you're 100% sure you didn't change, install or removed anything you could use it)

on a healthy system that is...... one small change in the registry can make it very well possible to delete it; it is after all just a (virtual) folder. But this change isn't meant for the 'common' user only for the 'advanced' who should know what he/she is doing.

No no, I didn't install or change anything since then.  the restore point was actually just a few hours prior to the deletion of that stupid recycle bin

You can't actually delete the recycle bin unless you have a REALLY unstable computer.. You probably just moved it somewhere.. 8-) But good job the system restore found it. :p

A lil suggestion: store your documents and installationfiles on another partition (this is always a wise thing to do, think about what happens when you reinstall Windows etc.) and exclude it from sysrestore (start > control panel > system > system restore tab). That way they will not be lost incase you need to do a sysrestore.
