O.P. Spyware protection in norton AV 2005
does auto-protect feature in norton av 2005 protect from spyware?
it seems that i can run the keylogger setup that i have without a problem although the manual scan does detect it as a threat!
what gives?

I would personally suggest you to use Ad-Aware 6 SE for spyware, you can find a free copy on www.download.com , it is one of the best spyware i know

its not bad Ad-Aware SE if you want Free stuff but keep in mind a Paid copy of a ad-aware program is better ,, i use Pestpatrol from VET an its a lot better than Ad-Aware SE is

You may also want to check out Spybot S&D. The latest versions have the Resident, a utility that watches changes to your Registry, and allows you to allow/deny such changes.
Useful, because uninstalling MD removes more startup entries than just MD... :mipdodgy:
