Okedokies, well at dad's work he's not allowed to use MSN/Windows Messenger, however if i could take it in on a USB it "should" work.

Any ideas how i can do this? i.e. can i change the program name etc? Or any suggestions so it wont show up

Don't go for socalled portamessengers, msnm messenger needs certain keys in the registry to work. These portamessengers will make these keys in the registry and are unable to remove them properly.

This has been discussed in previous threads:
Risico Messenger
[Updated] Messenger Live! Released [11 May 2005]
Portable Messenger

Also see "Cookie's reply to Portable Plus"

If you can't use msnm on a comp go for webmessengers.

MSN Messenger doesn't need any registry keys to work...

It works fine without them...

And if you want to install plus! on it, you just need the regkey that says what the install dir is of msn messenger

HKCR\CLSID\{0D81DFEC-5610-4a2b-9B57-FC33D21366F0}\LocalServer32 (default value)

Edit: About the connection... try to get the proxy information...

no... MSN Messenger needs plenty of registry keys to work properly, please read the threads linked to by Sunshine:

Don't go for so called "portable messengers", msn messenger needs certain keys in the registry to work. Any of such "portable messengers" will still make these keys in the registry as they are simply normal msn messengers (and are unable to remove them properly).
