'away' or 'idle' status

O.P. Huh?  'away' or 'idle' status
It seems that when I have Messenger Plus! Live installed, it prevents Windows Live Messenger from automatically switching my status to 'away' after I've been inactive for whatever amount of time I've set it to.

Are the two incompatile?  Does Plus! Live override the automatic status switch on Windows Live?

I never had this problem before, until I updated my Plus! so I'm just wondering if it's a new thing.

If anyone can clear this up for me, it would be great.  I like keeping a log of my chats, but I hate how Windows Live does it.  I'd rather use the Chat Log from Plus!, but I'll have to give it up if it doesn't allow my status to switch automatically.

So yes, help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Can you state exactly what version numbers you have of Messenger Plus! Live and Windows Live Messenger? (complete version numbers, including build number)...

Are you sure nothing else is preventing Windows Live Messenger from switching to idle, like a certain Plus! script or something?

no

PS: I have no problems with the auto-switching to idle when using the latest versions of Plus! Live (4.10.252 and 4.11.254) with Windows Live Messenger 8.1.0106.

I was using the latest version of Messenger Plus! Live, so I guess it would be 4.11.254.  And I'm using Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0812.00.

I haven't downloaded any scripts or anything, so I don't think that could be the problem.

Check that Windows the idle/away option in your Windows Live Messenger settings are correct.

Tools -> Options -> Under "Personal" check under "My Status" and make sure that "Show me as 'Away'...." is ticked and that you have a set number of minutes in the text box as well.

The Windows Live Messenger settings are definitely right.  It works if I don't have Plus!

RE: 'away' or 'idle' status
PS: I just tested with WLM 8.0.0812 also, and it nicely puts me on idle though.

All I can suggest is
- untick the "set away after x minutes" option
- press 'ok'
- sign out
- exit messenger
- restart messenger
- tick the "set away after x minutes" option

(to make sure the state of option you see in the options dialog is the option which is used/saved -sometimes this is beeped up, but not by Plus! though-)

Other than this, I have no idea how to fix it... or maybe other than reinstalling everything from scratch (which very rarely fixes anything though).

Well, I actually tried re-installing everything (WLM 8.0.0812 with MPL 4.11.254) and it seems to have worked.  So I am now very happy and also very grateful for all your help.

Thank you!
P.S.  Thank you CookieRevised for going through all that trouble.  It was greatly appreciated.

Well there goes my saying that reinstalling will seldom works :p

Anyways, it would nice to know what exactly fixed it, as reinstalling is like squashing the ant with a 10 ton hammer.

Registry settings which were reset (but which one)?
Program files which were corrupt or patched (but which one)?
And of which program WLM or msgplus?

We will never know :D

Anyways, if you encounter this again, first post here again and we'll take you step by step in manually resetting everything so the culprint can be found.

;)
