Is it possible to see notification if someone comes online and I am playing some game in full sceen? I have unchecked that "slideshow"-option in my settings but it doesn't seem to help.

You could use keyflasher script to flash one of the LEDs on your keyboard when someone comes online
Apart from that, there is no other way
