that could be part of the reason your not getting the messages, you keep disconnecting.
If your on broadband internet, reset your modem (and router) and see if it helps, also check you have no proxies by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings.
If your on dial-up, your probably disconnecting due to phone calls and stuff, not much you can do.
