Messenger Skins Database

The skinning forum is full of skins, but it can be hard to find them between all the threads with questions and un-finished skins. In the skins db you can find all the skins which are ready to be used (and submitted to us). Browse them by category, popularity or date, all with preview pictures and compatibility info.

Submit your own skin to the DB

So you created your own skin and don't mind other people using it? Awesome! Of course you can post it on this forum so people will be able to reply with feedback, but if you really want people to download your skin you should put it on the official database too ;p. The forum will be visited by only so much people, while the skins db is the first place most people will look for skins, the software links to it so we get tens of thousands visitors every day.

There are a few basic rules if you want your skin in the database, see an updated list of them on the submit page. When your skin follows these rules you can submit it, we will take a look at it and add it to the site for you.

To submit a skin, simply send an email to skins@msgpluslive.net and include the following information:

• Skin's Name
  The name of your skin.
  
• Version Number
  Usually 1.0 if it's the first time you submit it. Don't forget to increase the version number when you submit an update.
  
• Compatibility Info
  Which Live Messenger versions does your skin work on? For example: 8.5.x & 9.0.x.
  
• Description ("About This Skin")
  Tell everything you want users to know about your skin here. How you got the idea for it, what options can be set, etc.
  
• Screenshot
  A screenshot of your skin in action. It is recommended to show at least the contact list and a conversation window in your screenshot. Only one image is accepted. Dimensions with a 4:3 accept ratio between 1024x768 and 1280x1024 pixels are preferred. Send your screenshots in PNG-24 format if possible, we'll take care of compressing the file for the website on our side.
  
• Category
  Pick one of our existing categories, or suggest a new one.
  
• Creator
  Your name as you want people to see it on the site.
  
• Website (optional)
  Have a special page for your skin, or your own website? Let us know so we can link to it.
  
• The skin itself
  The file where it's all about, don't forget to attach it to your email in a .plsk Skin Pack file.
  
• Update? (optional)
  If you send an update to one of your own skins that's already listed in our database, please include the URL where we can find the old version in the database.

How much what takes?

How much time between sending the skin to skins@msgpluslive.net and skin going to database, and also for updates...

It varies, usually somewhere between a few minutes and 72 hours.
