O.P. Small conversation window crashes MSN
When I try to IM someone, the window pops up very small, only enough to show the Display Picture and about one character in the message window. MSN then goes to 99% CPU utilization and freezes. I can't figure out how to fix it. I'm guessing it's frozen because it can't believe the IM window opened up to such small dimensions.

Do I need to modify the registry for this? I imagine finding a setting for initial window size might help.

*-) .... is ur pc usually under that much stress ?? Mine isnt and yet when msg starts it uses quite an amt of ram and hence my pc becomes slow for some time and nearly becomes stuck for some time. Just be patient and wait. It'll work out ;) Just try running minimum amt of programs while messenger is starting That way ull be ok .... ie if u have a normal pc like me. I have a P3 1 Ghz processor and 128 Mb ram on xp .... If ur config is like mine then try doing what i do. Mabbe that'll work for you too :)

I'm running XP on P-M 1.8, 1 GB RAM. Believe me, it's not my machine being slow. I can drag the window, but by that time MSN is already non-responsive and neither the IM windows nor the main window refreshes. Bear in mind that the program runs okay, but only crashes when I open up an IM window.

I may have to uninstall and reinstall Messenger Plus.

Were you getting this problem before you installed Plus!? It could just be a problem with your MSN.
Also, what version of MSN are you running?

MSN crashes only after installing Plus. I'm running the newest version, 7.0.

Pentium M (Centrino).

I had to uninstall MSN and Messenger Plus, delete the registry key that had MSN settings, then after I reinstalled the default window size came back. Everything works now. I think there's some bug with resizing the window, since I like to make the window as small as possible. I think it tried to keep those settings, but ended up with dimensions that were "illegal" and it didn't know what to do with it.
