O.P. Obnoxious MSN bug
It started some time ago, and although I have Messenger Plus and StuffPlug installed I have tried clean reinstalling on MSN Messenger without them and I do not consider them to be the cause.

Whenever I open up my MSN Messenger I see stars next to their names, as if they had updated their blogs. After I check their contact cards it disappears. Nothing bad so far, same as it has always been.

Now here's the bad part: After signing out and signing back in those stars are back, even though no one has updated their blogs. For some wierd reason MSN just can't remember that I've checked their blog.

I have tried deleting temporary internet files, cookies, and cache, but it didn't help.

Any ideeas as to why this is happening to me?

EDIT: I am using the latest version of MSN Messenger on a Windows XP system.

Try A-Patch [ http://www.apatch.tk ] You can remove gleam notifications.

Hmm... Interestingly enough, it seems there are more people with the same issue lately - Help with blog star displaying problem..., and I'm experiencing it as well. :/

But I WANT to see gleam notifications so I can know when people update their blogs... I just don't want to see them every time I sign in even though nobody's updated anything...

EDIT: Thanx ALOT. No, the star ISN'T animated. So that would mean that my messenger has actually gotten FIXED and displays it as it should rather than being broken.

Thanks again.

Hey can you let me know how you managed to fix it? I'm having that annoying problem too... UGH!

Did you choose to disable the gleam notification, but you were able to still see new blog updates by your contacts?

Thanks :)

No, The beams are animated only when space is updated, unanimated beams remain there to inform you that the contact has a space.
The only available solution is eliminating them.

I see... the weird thing is, everytime I log onto my contact list the animated beams appear again.

Everytime I clear it, it comes back flashing again the next time I sign on. And this happened both on my PC and laptop, which I thought was very, very strange...

This is an MSN Messenger bug and nothing we can do about it to fix it. It has to be fixed by the MSN Messenger programmers.

Report it to MS:
  public report form:
     http://messenger.msn.com/help/contactus.aspx
  private report form:
     https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=50
