The different way being enabling/disabling caching? For most USB devices, turn off the caching, as they don't need it. It's only useful for USB hard drives, where data exchange is in the gigabytes.
Edit: Actually, are there any unknown devices in Device Manager? If so, try to install the 'USB Mass Storage' for any unknown device listed.
