Display names are gone!
Yes, in Windows Live Messenger 2011, contacts are seen with the name that they have registered the account with, similar to other social networking sites, such as Facebook.
Messenger Plus! cannot change this, and it is extremely unlikely that the Windows Live team will revert this decision [at least for this release].
If you are worried about privacy and plan to switch back to
Windows Live Messenger 2009, keep in mind that
any of your contacts using Windows Live Messenger 2011 will nevertheless still see the name you registered with.
I cannot start one-way video calls!

The next version of Windows Live Messenger, releasing globally in the coming months, features two-way calling with high quality audio and high-definition video. This enhancement required significant changes in the audio and video stack used across all of our Windows Live services. This week’s Wave 3 update (called “QFE3”) upgrades the current release of Messenger with the new stack. As part of this upgrade, we are retiring one-way webcam functionality.
You can no longer send your webcam or receive your contact's webcam as
this feature has been removed by the Windows Live Team.
Complaining here at the Messenger Plus! Live Community Forums will not do anything. If you would like to address your concerns, please do so at the
Windows Live Solution Centre.
