O.P. Renaming Contacts
I wanted to rename one of my contacts, but when I enable Custom Names, it changes EVERYONE'S name to their e-mail.  Is there any way to rename a single contact without everyone's name changing?

RE: Renaming Contacts
It doesnt change it to their email, the order of your msn contact list will just be sorted by the email addresses. But if it really shows up like that, go to Contacts> Manage Contacts > View Contacts by > Display name.

Its a limitation and  that causes it to go into alphabetical order of your email addresses.

RE: Renaming Contacts
It shouldn't change other contact's names to ther e-mails. What Windows, Messenger and Plus version are you using?

Did you try disabling and re-enabling custom names? Go to Plus! > Preferences > Contact List > Custom Names, uncheck 'Display custom contact names (enables "view by email")', click apply, check it again and click OK. Try restarting Messenger too.

I tried disabling and re-enabling it.  The actual option says "Display custom contact names (also enables view by e-mail)," so I assumed that was the problem.  I also have "Use custom contact names while chatting" turned on.

I'm using the latest Plus version on WinXP Pro (SP1) and MSN Messenger 6.2.0137
