O.P. Custom Sound problems.
I have the "automatic sound playing" option switched to OFF, so i have to click play to hear the sound :P

sometimes when i click play then click on the  conversation area where you type, it won't put any characters that i type and i would have to click the text area again

Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0.6000)
Windows Live Messenger 8.5.0601
Messenger Plus! Live 4.23.0.276

Can't confirm

Turned off "Automatically play sounds"

When someone sends me a custom sound and I click play, I lose focus on the chat box (which is what is supposed to happen). I just click it again and I can type :p

What they are saying is they have to click a second time for some odd reason.

RE: Custom Sound problems.
After a hard work, I figured out the problem.

For example,
  1. one of my contact sends me an emotion sound while his window is open here.
  2. I click on "Play XXX sound"
  3. Then while listening the sound I click on chat box once but don't move my mouse, I mean I leave the curser where I click.
  4. Then I can't write any letter in the chat box. (I have to _move_ mouse a bit (not necessarily click once more))

If you still can't reproduce it, just keep working on the next version as usual, forget about this problem :D
