RE: Feature Request
i doubt that will be implemented since only a small fraction of the users of msgplus uses gmail. Why should there be gmail only and not yahoo and other services?

I think the Messenger Plus! ability to check POP e-mails is sufficient for most users.

If you want to check all your pop and non-pop (including non-hotmail) e-mails at once, check out www.eprompter.com.  This nifty program allows you to read and delete e-mails as well.  However, it doesn't appear to have support for gmail YET - perhaps because gmail is still in beta.

Impossible, every webbased mail uses its own protocol. So it is almost impossible to support them all.

Yes they are. Each webmail uses it's own kind of database, it's own kind of system to access it, it's own layout for the access page, etc.. etc.. There is no fixed protocol for webmail.

Also, many webmail services don't even allow 3rd party applications to access their databases. In fact even hotmail doesn't allow it anymore; and not only in 3rd party applications, but even in Outlook (Express) it isn't supported anymore*.

* Only existing accounts can still be accessed. New accounts are already blocked. But all existing accounts will eventually be blocked too (unless you pay for the extra Hotmail service).
(And in case you decide to flame MS about this: this has nothing todo with MS being greedy, but everything with the fight against spam. So thank all the spammers for this instead of flaming MS.)

i thought the reason most services don't support pop3 anymore is due to the fact that hackers can brute force an account if pop3 is enabled. So it's removed due to security reasons.

maybe, but what has that todo with the fact that there isn't a unified system/protocol for webmail? or with the fact that msgplus doesn't support webmail?

(also, webmail can also be brute-force attacked! Although depening on the kind of system, it will be easier/harder. All in all it is as secure as pop3.)
