O.P. Undecided  Pruning users
I'm about to delete 26% of the registered users on this board. Any objections? :refuck:

The following conditions must be true in order to be deleted:
1) The user has never made a post.
2) The user has not logged in after March 2003.

Advantages of pruning:
1) Less wasted space in the database and on the member list.
2) More usernames available.
3) Possibly better database performance with less records to keep track of.

Disadvantages:
1) Of course, accounts will be deleted. If one of the deleted members actually remembers these forums, and even remembers their password, they will have trouble logging in. :D
2) The number of total users will go from 28000 to around 20000. I could work around that by making sure the number of deleted users is always added to the total, if you think that's a good idea. I don't really care about showing off how many users we have, but maybe you do.

None, I agree, but it would be a good idea to send a mail to those users saying about that.

I agree with Choli that maybe it should be a more recent month. A non poster who hasn't logged in for 9 months isn't likely to come back. And if they do, they can just re-register surely?

Of course, if its feasible, email people, like last time, asking them to log in if they don't want to have their account deleted.

Beyond having the ability to brag about having X thousand number of users, I think its always better to keep the database as clean as possible, and not have thousands of unused usernames etc.

Bottom line - go for it! :P

:| We'd lose way too many members if it was september. I chose March because about 25% would be deleted, which seems good to me.

Some people might not like the user count decreasing, as more users is better and gives the impression that the forums are more popular.

I forgot to say: Most users register, ask some question/bug/suggestion and then never come back again. Users with, let's say, 9 or less post should also be deleted. To this users you can use March as month and for 0-posts users use september, eh?

Edit: ok to your last reply, wdz

With that idea, about 19000 users would be deleted. No thanks. :p
