What about backing up large amounts of information onto many media? For example, music collections, backed up DVDs to codec compressed files and the added bonus of being able to transfer media onto it...
The demand for a powerful processor for the more average user has increased recently quite a lot, many games now require a 2Ghz processor and just a short while ago that was 800mhz, so a powerful processor is a must now...Especially with the P4 1Q coming out soonish processors will hit the 4ghz mark. Now is a risky time to buy a PC with this leap, mine was bought at Christmas time last year and it is 2.6ghz the norm in a years time could perhaps be double that...

The nice thing about RAM is if you save up you can upgrade it, wait until the guarantee is up and save up in the meantime and then bring it up to 1GB...

About what has been said about DVD-readers: If they're good, they can read CDs as fast as CD-readers.
Indeed, don't let the DVD readable speeds confuse you...they use a completely different scale to CD speeds...
And CD readable speeds aren't really a great need, years ago they were up at 52X and the most games they needed were 4X, however it is nice to be able to copy and install information off them quickly, but it's just as fast on the PC you wish to buy.

Hard Drive : 80GB 7200RPM
Bit small imo, I think 120GB is a lot nicer...mine has 40gb and 80gb partition, I store the OS, all programs and games on the 40gb part and on the 80gb part all the personal stuff, so in a restore nothing hard to replace is effected...a lot of people seem to be doing that as well, that's where a 120GB comes in very useful, the size for this is perfect. I'd advise you went up to 120GB...
