TonyKlein,

Indeed welcome to our forums. It is extremely rare that someone from such sites comes here. So (Y) to you ;) much respect ;)

May I suggest to alter the description a bit, as currently it isn't totally accurate:

Original:
Third party MSN Messenger extension that hides banner ads and adds archiving and other useful features. Bundles the hard to remove C2Media LOP parasite; the latest version of the software luckily offers you a choice during setup: make sure you install MessengerPlus WITHOUT that "sponsor program"!

Suggestion:
Third party MSN Messenger extension that adds archiving and other useful features. Comes with the optional, hard to remove, C2Media LOP sponsor; each version of the software luckily offers you a choice during setup: make sure you install Messenger Plus! WITHOUT that "sponsor program" if you don't want to add adware on your computer to support Messenger Plus!.

Why:
* hides banner ads: as of the new public beta, it no longer does this: see http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=34015
* optional: very important, as many people believe it is forced upon them.
* hard to remove: if you wish, please remove this line, as it is in fact very easy to uninstall by uninstalling Messenger Plus!. This will trigger the uninstall of the sponsor also. For some reason people find it inlogic to uninstall a program to remove the things it installed :/
* parasite > sponsor: parasite is mainly associated with spyware, trojans and viri. Wich is not what the sponsor is, it is adware only.
* the latest version > each: since the sponsor was added, every version of Plus! had the option to opt out on the sponsorinstall. This has always been so and it was never forced upon the user.
* if you don't want to add adware on your computer to support Messenger Plus!: I added this because that is the reason why it contains the adware sponsor. It also leaves the user to choose, instead of telling it what to do. And it fair to the user as well to Patchou.

I've seen also that you link to Sandi's site about Messenger Plus!, although it contains much more true things about it then it used to, it still has some incorrect info...

And maybe asking to add the site will be going to far I assume? Well I can try ;) http://www.msgplus.net/

Yes, maybe. On the other hand I could understand why it isn't listed there. Although to give complete accurate info maybe it should...

EDIt: wow, indeed quick addition of the true Messenger Plus! process. (Y)

Thanks for the welcome.  :)  In our Hijack This - Spyware removal section we do indeed spend an inordinate amount of time just helping people to get rid of that IBIS/LOP toolbar...  *-)

But no hard feelings... (A) :-#

Have a look at the link now:  url added,  'parasite' changed to 'adware',  so I suggest you go count your blessings now... LOL!

Cheers,

I don't say people don't have problems with it in general though. It can be very nasty indeed.

But the toolbar that comes with Messenger Plus! is a very stripped down and special made toolbar/sponsor for Messenger Plus!. It can't be compared to the "normal" things you'll find in other LOP containing programs.

The uninstallation process of the sponsor of Plus! is tested again and again by many people, and each time it never fails to completely remove every trace of it. It is only when people are using programs like ad-aware, S&D, etc. that the sponsor will get corrupted and then the hassle begins. In order to fix this, the user must reinstall Plus! with the sponsor and right-after uninstall it again. And while doing this, no anti-ad/spyware programs must be used...

Also some cause of the problems is that people don't follow the onscreen instruction like entering the validation number, closing every instance of their MSIE or forget to reboot.

Recently we had someone here who complained that the sponsor couldn't be uninstalled and that it was realy a pain in the neck. Afterwards he realized that he had still a process running of ad-aware which time after time tried to block the sponsor, with all the consequences. See http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=34111

And I like to ask/stress on this again (A): * the latest version > each version: since the sponsor was added in v2.10.36 (may 23th 2003), every version of Plus! had the option to opt out on the sponsor install. This has always been so and it was never forced upon the user.

Anyways, thank you for the additions (Y)

I believe you;  however,  as most people coming to us are mainly interested in getting rid of LOP while retaining the main MsgPlus application,  we usually just help them do that,  which is not a prob if you know how to go about it.

If you're right,  your suggestion of uninstalling and then re-installing sans the sponsor program would arguably be the easier way of achieving that result...

Hi TonyKlein !

It's nice to see you take our comments into consideration for your website. It is very appreciated, and I'm sure Patchou, the maker of Messenger Plus!, would be very please to see that :)
So, Fraisie.net is empty atm. I\'m trying to come up with something cool to put on it, and I will!

Hi Fraisie.  You're welcome! :)

We like the information on our List to be as correct and up to date as it can be,  so we are always open to suggestions and comments.
