ok lets say you have set a chat name in SPNG to BOB

your screenname in MSN is Flange. this is shown on your friends contact lists

eg Flange

When your in a conversation with them the messages will appear like this:

Friend says:
hey
BOB says:
hello
Friend says:
wow your name is differnt in conversations it doesn't say Flange says!

actually im pretty sure its possible.

both sides would definately have to have the plugin though.
and it would be a huge project

the plugin would have to gain control of incoming text.

store it in a variable and when the signal from the other plugin is recieved with lets say 2 arguments. 'what were looking for' and 'what to replace with'

sieve through the variable until you find it, replace it.

Plus can clear the Chat Screen, so thats possible.

Writing to the Window is also possible because we all do it.

Some good knowledge of ASM wouldnt go astray either.

agreed, plus if it's capable of modifying pre'sent text users could make others look like fool's, and so-on.
