Oh yeah, and starting with this version previously blocked file extensions .jpg and .mp3 are now available for transfer again

Now why do I feel that this is like the 814 prank? anyone has any information about this?

I can confirm that this is a REAL copy from Microsoft Corp., Not officially released yet though.  I should also note that the build is 814, not 813.

I was courious about this build so i checked out the leak :o (now mentioned on mess.be when i just visited it) its installer is offical like the proper builds and i canceled installation. I conclude 7.0.0813 is real but is unlike the prank the fake 7.0.0814 build earlier this month that version did not have a not normal installation compared to the normal microsoft practices. You would need to wait till 7.0.0813 comes out as its not released offically by microsoft although mess.be now claiming its leaked.

microsoft say this is to be released as a "patch"... instead of an entire installation package 8mb download of messenger7...

We’re glad to have been able to fix a few bugs. We couldn’t fix them all, of course. Thanks to all who have given it a try. I am hereby giving those of you (20-30) who have gotten the e-mail from me permission to forward it to other beta testers (under NDA) so they can try it out. Let’s broaden the net and see just how solid this patch is.

In particular, MSN Messenger has never done this patching technology before. If people feel adventurous and want to…

    1. Run the patch again (to make sure it doesn’t do anything)
    2. Uninstall and go back to 777 (to make sure nothing gets weird), and then install the patch again
    3. Try to run the patch when you don’t even have 777.

That would be great “devious tester” things to try.
That was from the MSN Messenger BETA newsgroups:

This is an official release of Microsoft... but i like the idea of the patch upgrade from 0777 - 0813 especially for dial up users because they won't have to download the 7 mb file. I find this version much faster than 0777 but we have to wait for skins and some patches (not including A-patch) .

beerbro, thats against the agreement..

oh yeh, and it is completly real :)

fyi: here is a article i wrote for http://www.universallance.com

quote:
The Msn team are currently working on a QFE (Quick Fix Engineering) patch, or hot fix patch. The Patch, which updates the version number to 7.0.0813(Wait! Weren’t 814 a joke? Is it just me?) is the first hot fix patch to be released by the Msn team, and it has sure has had some affect on the performance of messenger.

The patch has been released only to some selected beta testers, although it is rumoured to be released soon. I have had the privilege, as a beta tester, to try it out, and I would say that it has improved the overall speed of messenger. Signing-in is a lot quicker, and contact list scrolling is also smoother.

Other changes made by the patch are that it has updated the file block list. These are now 72 filenames that are hard built into the exe file. They are the following:

code:
ade, adp, app, asp, bas, bat, cer, chm, cmd, com, cpl, crt, csh, exe, fxp, hlp, hta, inf, ins, isp, its, js, jse, ksh, lnk, mad, maf, mag, mam, maq, mar, mas, mat, mau, mav, maw, mda, mdb, mde, mdt, mdw, mdz, msc, msi, msp, mst, ops, pcd, pif, prf, prg, pst, reg, scf, scr, sct, shb, shs, tmp, url, vb, vbe, vbs, vsd, vsmacros, vss, vst, vsw, ws, wsc, wsf, wsh.

It’s nice to see they have removed mp3 files from the list. :)
