Click
Start > Run.... Type
regedit and hit OK.

Double click the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The keys are the things in the small left pane that look like folders.

Double click the key
SOFTWARE, then
Microsoft.

Keep going until you get through
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList. I know you are using Windows XP, but the key is still called
Windows NT, because Windows XP is on an NT core, like Windows 2000.

Click
Edit > New > DWORD Value. Name the new value the username you want to hide, case-aware. The values look like files in the large right pane.

The value should be
0 by default, but just in case, double click the new value, and make sure that
Value data: is set to
0.

Restart. You don't need to save your changes, Registry editing is live.
