Lou, are you sure that you burned the CD using something that can burn as an ISO image? As that is how you must do it...

suse linux is really easy to usei thought it was like the most beginner distro but ubuntu is good too. :)

well I was thinking linux was gonna be something like a windows with more apeal or something..lol it isnt at all what I imagined...[got my cd to work] but this seems to cause me some problems...I thought it would be like mac...clean interface and totally different but not command line controlled...this thing seems to have to have me tell it what to do...no icons, nmoue is different...wow such a different thing..if I didn't have that bar at the bottom i'd be sure I was in an upgrade of ms dos:s

@lou_habs: First thing.. get rid of that Gentoo CD.

You should not start to learn Linux with Gentoo. Please, do yourself a favour and get any other distro, NOT Gentoo. I recommend Ubuntu (ubuntulinux.org)

Seriously, Gentoo is overload. And no, don't expect pretty GUIs in Linux, its commandline is its strong point. You can do anything with it.

NOTE to people who are gonna say Gentoo is a good idea: I know if you do start with it you'd learn far more than anything else, but for someone who hasn't got any sort of a clue it's a waste of time and will put them off Linux altogether..
