Intel processors have a heat-protection circuit, whereas AMDs don't. Then again, if your HSF is not fully secure on your processor, and you put it on yourself, you deserve to lose a CPU.
Obviously you don't if someone else didn't fit your HSF properly, or the catch breaks, but if the HSF does fall off, it'll hit your AGP/PCI cards as well. So it'll be expensive anyway.
