O.P. Irritating Feature of MSN Live
Hi,

Everytime I go into Messenger Live, I get SO SO irritated by the "Show the contacts in this group.  Right-click to rename or delete this group"  It just gets in the way of clicking and stuff when moving over groups.

I've asked the developers to get rid of it so many times now as we are not all thick and do get the message after a while!

I'm asking if anyone has a fix to get rid of it.  I know you could do it up until it moved to Live, so any ideas would be gratefully received!

???

I personally don't see how a tooltip can get in the way of clicking at all...

A tooltip will only appear if you hold your mouse still, and will dissapear as soon as you will move your mouse or click or whatever. It will never be in the way at all.

MSN is absolutely correct to not remove it as it makes absolutely no sense removing it.

Also, there are more texts which can appear in that tooltip. eg:
- Show the contacts in this group. Right-click to rename or delete this group.
- Hide the contacts in this group. Right-click to rename or delete this group.
- Hide the contacts in this group.
- Show the contacts in this group.

You were never able to remove it officially, because there never was (and never will be) an option to remove it. Nothing has changed regarding this since the Live version came out.

If you still want to get rid of it then you could always patch the resources of messenger and delete the string (make it empty, do not actually remove it!) with the use of a resource editor like ResHack.

- Close Messenger completely by right clicking on its systemtray icon and choosing "Exit".
- Open up msgslang.8.1.0178.00.dll into ResHacker and go to String Table 2864.
- There you can make the strings 45814, 45815, 45816 and 45820 (no other!) all empty. So do not remove them, just make them empty.
- Press on "Compile Script"
- Go to File > Save
- Restart Messenger

You should have posted in the subforum "MSN/Windows (Live) Messenger" as this has got nothing todo with Messenger Plus! (Messenger Plus! is an addon for Messenger, it is not a replacement for Messenger).

Thank you for your reply, and I'm pleased to say what you suggested worked and personally for me, its a lot better already.

I do have to disagree with you on why it should or should not be removed.  Other programs that I use allow tooltips to be switched off.

Microsoft should do the same, its a simple feature change, and to me its just as annoying as having the television channel logo in the corner of the screen, so that those of us who are familiar with the system dont have to be constantly reminded of a facility that should be blatently obvious.

Anyhow, thanks again, it is VERY much appreciated!
