O.P. Decrpting chat logs
Why does decrypting chat logs take so long? Is there a faster way to do it?

It takes its time based upon your processor speed, encryption level and size of your chat log.  The easiest solution for this is to lower the encryption level and you will find that it becomes remarkably quicker.  I think the lowest level of encryption should be alright, you don't really need the higher stuff unless it is likely that you have an expert hacker in your house and you have top secret spy codes in your chat logs (which could be intercepted using other methods anyway).

Lowering the encryption level will affect your next chat logs. You can't still open previous ones quickly with that method. If I'm wrong, please notify!

Your right, the new key length gets applied only with newly created logs. I don't see much reason to use a high bit key, the encryption method is pretty secure anyway :).

Yeah, and tbh, I dont even see why people want their chat logs with such a high encryption, there's no need for it tbh :P

It's not like it has passwords for the NASA or something in it :P

That is not what markee is talking about...

He didn't said that lowering the encryption key will speed up the decryption of existing encrypted logs.

Markee very obviously means re-encrypting the existing logs with a lower encryption key.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Markee, did you mean what CookieRevised said?

Or, did you mean what I replied and said that it won't help?

Or, did you already intend that lowering encryption will help only for next log files?

Obviously it was as Cookie pointed out, I don't think a post like this was needed at all and if you wanted to talk about it then you could have PM'ed me and that also goes for if you are trying to degrade someone, it is much nicer to ask the person via PM (I could not tell how exactly this post was intended so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt).

Anyway, to help with re-encrypting the old logs I found a thread I bookmarked a while ago which I'm amazed Cookie didn't link to.  Take a look at Encrypting, decrypting etc. of Plus! chatlogs.

There is also a .bat file that is linked to in that first post which is of use for encrypting and decrypting many chatlogs at once (brought to you by your friendly neighborhood CookieRevised [/spiderman like theme])
