O.P. Cellphone
I'm getting a new phone soon and I can't decide between the BlackBerry Pearl or the HP Ipaq 6945 the thing is I don't have a contract with neither T-mobile or AT&T(Cingular) but with CellularOne, which is sold in their stores.

What I'm looking for in a phone:

  • Internet Connectivity
  • Good Quality Speakerphone
  • PC syncing, for ringtones and such
  • Best text messaging
  • Organizer
  • Media player
  • Lots and lots of features and customizables

What I'm trying to avoid:

  • Horrible Speakerphone/Phone Quality
  • Poor texting
  • No PC syncing

Now, don't get me wrong, I researched both but I was hoping to get some advice from people who know more about this stuff. Also, do I have to buy accessorcies for PC syncing or do they come with them?

RE: Cellphone
My recommendation: BlackBerry 8100 Pearl

# Internet Connectivity Yes. HTML/CSS/JavaScript enabled web browser.
# Good Quality Speakerphone Yes
# PC syncing, for ringtones and such Comes with BlackBerry Desktop Manager, a synchronization and media transfer tool
# Best text messaging SureType keyboard, is that good enough? If not, you can also send/receive email too!
# Organizer Full integration to Microsoft Outlook. Calendar appointments, memos, tasks, address book.
# Media player Built in. Plays many audio and video types. Does not play streaming media
# Lots and lots of features and customizables there's tons of apps out there

All you need is a standard USB cable (included) and PC software (included, other versions free download) and something to sync with (Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise, CSV file, Yahoo! account [limited functionality] etc.)

Any other questions, ask me or send a PM. I work for RIM, so I know that smartphone inside out.

RE: Cellphone
I use Pearls a lot at work and they are pretty nice. Takes a while to get used to the keypad (Qwerty layout but two letters per key) but it's nice after a while.

Web pages look a bit squashed but you can't really get much better for a phone I guess.

When chooseing what works to use, just remember that PC sync is concerned with keeping your address book on your phone and PC both up to date, and also SMS, email messages. Ringtones are generally considered under file transfer capabilities. Sync = contacts, ringtones = file transfer.
