O.P. D-Link router problem...
My dlink router seems to be using the internet for nothing,

even if this computer and my dad's laptop are off, the WAN keeps flashing and the activity light on my modem is flashing too..

when i connect it directly to this computer, it doesnt seem to flash anymore (or flashes every 10 seconds)

Go into your gateway, check network activity?

nothing :P

the log shows some

Xmas port scan attack from [ip] detected :dodgy:

it doesn't come up often..

no one is using the internet.. the connection is idle but WAN is blinking and sucking up my bandwidth

edit: hmm, i checked the statistics page and it seems to be receiving packets much more than sending them ^o)

It's probably just "internet background radiation" - unsolicited packets arriving at your network. :p

My cable modem and router activity lights flash constantly too, even when I'm sure nothing is using the internet. The router, acting as a firewall, simply drops that junk.

How do you know that is to blame? There will always be activity. You might just have a crap line =p

it doesn't do much activity when it's directly connected (pc to modem) plus no disconnection
